Wounded Children
Operate from a place of insecurity Feel only the lack and fading He is surrounded by fear Of failure, punishment and derision Pulls on the allocated armour Dresses from within, a wall Built to protect becomes a drive Towards an unfeeling vanity.
She is terrified of being disappointed And petrified of disappointing She carries a whole in her heart Wrapped in brown paper Each echoing chamber stuffed With tear damp tissues and A lifetime of salty ocean waves. Further down, an empty womb Cries out to deaf heavens Weeps endlessly into the void Stretching for miles towards An unpromising horizon. She could try harder 'Make an effort little girl' 'Needs to speak up more' But what could she say That would change their minds Open their foolish eyes. See she is more than a ghost Miserably wondering the corridors Fiddling with the zip Playing with coarse hair strands Whilst her coursework remains Untouched. Silent. Until the line of death is minutes away And she sits hunched all night Painting with the owls Labelling lies and superstitions. All his stories retold by rote. And she doesn't believe a word of it. Hypocrites and forgers Erasing her from every text book Pretending that life could exist Without her magic bowl As though her juice and fruit Were not the beginning and end Of it all. As though she herself Did not exist. But she does exist
She cycles continuously Unaware of a destination Just the cycling of one thing After the other. An endless flow Carries her onwards, no matter Without her matter. A quantum Mystery they call it. She knows The only mystery is their ignorance Persisting regardless, their madness Driving her to the edge, slipping Clinging, crying, praying Decades passing like a blink A dream of repeated dying Over and over until The moment of realisation arrives One by one yet oh so quickly Fingers release their grip. She has been holding for sheer life To an illusion so scantily pixelated A blur of fictitious images Barely legible, and now she sees The errors, typos, endangered syntax Fading away in an illustrious breeze She feels her body falling Limp and vulnerable Opens her eyes to see She is flying..

I found myself reflecting on what I was reading yesterday about the Pistis Sophia - about the erasure of Mary Magdalene about the erasure of women’s voices in the bible… poetry is so amazing. Thank you.
